I am deep in creative work these days, full to the brim with complexities and simplifications. Did you know that this process of elaboration and pruning is so wired into human cognition that every language does it? There are always things that are not-well-said-enough in a given language, or changing conditions that demand adaptations through elaboration. And then, and at the same time, always — shortcuts, abbreviations, jargon arise — and too-complex adaptations are abandoned for the sake of ease, simplicity, grace. Can you sense those pendulations in your own experience, your life, your ways of perceiving?
