art for peace
Taking Refuge, mixed fibre on wood frame, ©2021 Rami Schandall
Last year, I finished a triptych of wrapped threads — gold, white, black — as I contemplated the buddhist Vow of Refuge: “I take refuge in the Buddha, the dharma, and the sangha.” The vows are a commitment, a contemplation, a mantra. In the way I received them, a commitment to peace is tied to these vows.
I received an invitation recently to submit artwork for display with the International Peace Festival. This triptych, “Taking Refuge,” immediately came to mind. I am delighted to announce that these unusual objects were selected and will be on display at the Textile Museum this weekend, September 24–25, 12pm–7pm.
Here is a little peek at these objects. If you practiced yoga or meditation with me on Zoom in the past year, you would have caught a glimpse of them in my home studio.
I invite you to come see the show! The museum is offering free admission to their entire collection — just let them know you are there for the Art for Peace Exhibition. I will be at the reception on Saturday afternoon to greet you!
