A Sunday with bright blue skies! How inspiring to have this brilliance! How alarming to have this warmth in the middle of February!
I have recently made a vow to myself, to make the very best of each weather condition that nourishes me, as it nourishes me. Where I live in Ontario has such a different climate than the places I lived when I was a child — it took me a long time to adapt to the shape of seasons here. Now, we find every season has a new unpredictability. I am adjusting my frame of reference once again.
If there is something uplifting in the light right now, I vow to embrace it. If there is a softness in the air that feels like Spring at the wrong time, I vow to embrace the softness and the lift it brings to my spirit, and embrace the wrongness, also. Last week it was extreme cold, and the tight hug of Winter that I savoured. Did you feel that too? It was such a fleeting, sharp, cold-snap — and a moment of dark to dip into, even as the days grow noticeably longer.
It’s a pretty subtle shift, this promise — a small degree of deeper acceptance. A subtle dharma in what is really an extreme situation.
