Ten Years of #SkyProject

Art

On October 27, 2015, I started an experiment in contemplative, durational practice. What would it mean to repeat one creative action, every single day, for 100 days? I chose to take a picture of the sky every morning, straight up. No horizon, just sky. After 100 days, I was completely hooked. I committed to continue for one year. Then it became 1000 days…and now the project is 10 years old! How can this be?

Visit the Sky Portal for a view of the first 1000 photos, animated.

From process and repetition, inquiry deepens — How to express this multitude of moments? How to be in touch with the skyness of sky? Sky Mandalas emerged as one answer, a series of kaleidoscopic patterns from the original Skyproject photographs with a feeling of depth and strangeness and something sacred. Printed on silk, they are airy lightness manifest.

Sky Mandala Silks make beautiful gifts. Printed in a limited edition in Montreal they ship worldwide — if you’re quick they might reach you before the holidays. In celebration of the decade, a gift: use the discount code 10YEARS for 25% off at checkout. (Expires December 31, 2025.)

Sky Mandala SIlks

Sky Mandalas have flown as birds and they are alive as silk…

A fascination with the sky and looking up persists! Both of my Grandfathers shared this habit, caught on film — and #skyproject will next move into that realm where my eyes and my Grandfathers’ meet.

May you be inspired by this beautiful world, it’s colours and light and never ending change.
