  2. a prophetic sign especially : a favorable sign

(Merriam-Webster)

On New Year’s Day, I had the opportunity to practice as both a teacher and a student, leading, listening, and co-creating on that day that is like every other day, and yet, is a beginning. Human beings frame time in all manner of calendars, and this time, the turn from one year to the next, has felt less like a threshold to me, and more like a passage through the middle, a continuous state. Still, I felt called to voice something — a ritual, an incantation, a wish — to begin well, this new year.

I believe less in auspices as prophecy than I do in the power of clarity, intention, the power of love, and the desire to call in “kindly patronage and guidance.” To express good wishes to all, in honour of our deepest and ongoing interconnections, this is the spell, my incantation, a wish and an intention …

I welcome and celebrate
in all ways
Life loving itself into being.
